Rep. Jackson Lee: Continue the Fight Despite Budget Challenges

In a recent meeting with U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D.-Texas), the Congresswoman encouraged ADA representatives to "remind members of Congress to take the moral high ground and do what is right" in addressing issues like child obesity and hunger, despite federal budget cuts and possible program eliminations.

Jackson Lee encouraged ADA to frame nutrition as a bipartisan issue and to continue to develop strong relationships with the Congressional Black Caucus. The meeting followed Rep. Jackson Lee's participation in ADA's congressional briefing on food deserts.

ADAPAC has contributed to Rep. Jackson Lee's campaign in 2011 as ADA has strengthened its relationship with her. ADA is hosting a PAC event for Rep. Jackson Lee May 3 in Washington, D.C. Invitations will be to sent to affiliate leaders.

In addition to collaborating with three other Representatives and ADA to host the food deserts briefing, Rep. Jackson Lee agreed to be an original co-sponsor of the Medical Foods Equity Act after ADA members met with her staff as part of the Public Policy Workshop.
