Maine Dietetic Association Moves Forward on Public Policy

Registered dietitians were in the forefront of discussions April 4 with the Maine state Department of Health and Human Services, thanks to the efforts of the Maine Dietetic Association. "The Commissioner is supportive of the RD as the only evidence-based food and nutrition expert and understands scope creep," according to MDA State Policy Representative Marcy Kyle, RD.

MDA members also met with State Sen. Chris Rector (R.-22nd Dist.), chairman of the Joint Standing Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development, to discuss the role of the RD and the value of evidence-based information in making nutrition and food policy. MDA volunteered to work with Sen. Rector on health-related issues and to serve on task forces or committees on related topics.
