Corporate Sponsors Provide Much-Needed Aid to Japan

With Japan still suffering from the damage caused by the recent earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis, ADA's corporate sponsors are reaching out to help those afflicted by the tragedy.

Abbott Nutrition, through its philanthropic foundation the Abbott Fund, is providing $3 million (245 million yen) to support immediate relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami. This donation will be provided to the Japanese Red Cross through the American Red Cross and AmeriCares.

ARAMARK is working through the American Red Cross and its International Response Fund. The ARAMARK Charitable Fund has made a $250,000 contribution to support aid for the affected areas. ARAMARK employees are also making personal contributions to the American Red Cross. ARAMARK has committed to match, dollar for dollar, each contribution its employees make to help the people of Japan.

Cargill, parent company to CoroWise™ and Truvia™ brands, adds to Japan relief efforts with a $250,000 donation to Second Harvest Japan, a Tokyo-based food bank that is delivering truckloads of food and other needed items to the Tohoku region to provide nourishment to survivors of the earthquake and tsunami. Cargill is also matching employee contributions to the Red Cross.

The Coca-Cola Company quickly took action to provide financial assistance and more than 7 million bottles of beverages for relief efforts. The Coca-Cola Japan Reconstruction Fund will build on those efforts for the long-term, providing 2.5 billion yen (US $31 million) over three years, primarily toward the rebuilding of schools and other community facilities supporting children.

Kellogg Company announced a $500,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts in Japan. The contribution includes equal amounts of cash and product and is designed to support the efforts of the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd., the parent company of Pharmavite, SOYJOY® and Nature Made®, has made a donation of 390 million yen (US $4.9 million) to the Japanese Red Cross to support rescue and relief operations.
