New EAL Guideline now Available

ADA's Research & Strategic Business Development Team is pleased to announce the updated publication of the Disorders of Lipid Metabolism Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guideline, which is FREE to all ADA members on the Evidence Analysis Library®!

You will find nutrition recommendations within this guideline related to individuals with Disorders of Lipid Metabolism which include the following topics, among many others:

  • Medical nutrition therapy and nutrition assessment, monitoring and evaluation
  • Cardio Protective Diet (e.g., Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Plant Stanols and Sterols)
  • Micronutrient Intervention (e.g., Antioxidant Supplementations, Homocysteine, Folate, Coenzyme Q10)
  • Behavior/Physical Activity
  • Corollary health issues (e.g., Hypertension and Metabolic Syndrome)
  • Triglycerides

This guideline contains systematically developed recommendations, based on scientific evidence, and is designed to assist practitioners on the appropriate nutrition care for individuals with Disorders of Lipid Metabolism. Members of the expert workgroup – led by JoAnn Carson, PhD, RD, LD, Chair; Frances Burke, MS, RD; Catherine Champagne PhD, RD, LDN, FADA; Elvira Johnson, MS, RD, CDE, LD; Wahida Karmally, DrPH, RD, CDE; Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD; Geeta Sikand, MA, RD, FADA, CDE; Linda Van Horn, PhD, with Mikelle C. McCoin, MPH, RD and Tami Piemonte, MS, RD, LD, lead evidence analysts, along with trained analysts – extensively examined the research to develop a series of recommendations and treatment algorithms.

The intent of ADA's guidelines is to support the integration of evidence-based dietetics practice and improve the quality of care. This guideline is one of fifteen published guidelines on the library; other guidelines include Adult Weight Management, Celiac Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Critical Illness, Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Heart Failure, HIV/AIDS, Hypertension, Oncology, Pediatric Weight Management, Spinal Cord Injury and Unintended Weight Loss for Older Adults.
