ADA Meets with USDA Under Secretary on Food Safety

ADA President Judith C. Rodriguez, PhD, RD, FADA, LDN, and ADA member Missy M. Cody, PhD, RD, attended a meeting in Washington, DC, on March 21 with USDA Under Secretary Elisabeth Hagen. Also in attendance were representatives from American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Family Physicians. Opportunities to collaborate on the food safety were discussed. Dr. Hagen highlighted USDA's upcoming Food Safety Program with the ad council, which will be launched this summer.

The USDA is working on a food safety ad campaign with the Ad Council that will debut in the summer. The ads will be targeted to parents and other caregivers of children (not just mothers). The emphasis will be clear, short actionable messages. Look for more information coming this summer.
