ADA to Participate in National Food Day

ADA's Chief Executive Officer Patricia M. Babjak has been named to the Advisory Board for a major new campaign sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest that will culminate October 24 in the first annual national Food Day.

According to CSPI, Food Day is intended to "educate the public and support policy measures on such issues as diet and health, sustainable agriculture, farm-animal welfare and food insecurity." ADA views participation in Food Day as a significant way for ADA and CSPI to carry forward the dialogue between the two organizations, especially in areas of common concern and interest. Information on opportunities for ADA members' involvement will follow.

Ms. Babjak will be joined on the advisory committee by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa); U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D.-N.Y.); Georges Benjamin, MD, FACP, executive director of the American Public Health Association; David W. Fleming, MD, director and health officer for public health for Seattle and King County; Alice Waters, chef and proprietor of Chez Panisse, Berkeley, Calif.; Dan Barber, executive chef and co-owner of Blue Hill, New York City, N.Y.; Walter Willett, the Fredrick John Stare Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition and chair of the department of nutrition at Harvard University; author Michael Pollan; former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner David A. Kessler, MD; and others who are seeking to improve aspects of America's food system.
