President Names Member to Health Panel

ADA member Elizabeth J. Mayer-Davis, MSPH, PhD, RD, professor of nutrition in the Gillings School of Public Health and professor of medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina, has been appointed by President Obama to serve on the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion and Integrative and Public Health.

Ms. Mayer-Davis is one of 13 public health professional appointed to the panel. It advises the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council in developing policy and program recommendations and advising the council on lifestyle-based chronic disease prevention and management, integrative health care practices and health promotion. The council is led by U.S. surgeon general Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA.

In January, Ms. Mayer-Davis was also named president of health care and education at the American Diabetes Association.
