State Budgets Face Challenges

Several of the country's most-populous states, including California and Illinois, are facing budget shortages that may strongly affect jobs and nutrition programs over the next few years.

State tax increases along with calls for reduced spending have been proposed in some states. Organizations that rely on state funding for operation have been faced with maintaining services without payment from states that are in financial crisis.

ADA affiliates continue to work with elected officials to advocate for nutrition programs. This outreach and communication is especially critical in the current economic environment. ADA members can learn more about what is happening with grassroots efforts in their state by contacting their State Policy Representative.
