Farm Bill Fails in House: Now What?

Last week, the House of Representatives considered more than 100 amendments to the Farm Bill, which authorizes critical food and nutrition assistance and education programs. These amendments included language that would have eliminated the SNAP Nutrition Education program and further cuts to the larger SNAP program. But in the end the House was not able to pass a bill.

FDA Rule Will Require Early Notification of Drug Discontinuances or Interruptions

The Food and Drug Administration plans to release a proposed rule requiring drug manufacturers to give notification of discontinuances or interruptions in the manufacturing of life-supporting and other critical drugs. This rule would break down barriers that prevent many Academy members from providing optimal care to their patients.

The Impact Factor of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics rose in the past year from 3.586 to 3.797. Impact Factor is one measure of how influential a journal is in its field and is a way to count citations or articles used by an author as resources for his or her article and listed in the bibliography or reference sections.

Researchers, health-care providers and consumers can now see the ingredients listed on the labels of about 17,000 dietary supplements. The Dietary Supplement Label Database is hosted by the National Institutes of Health.
