The Academy's comments were based on input from the Coding and Coverage Committee, Legislative and Public Policy Committee and several dietetic practice groups.

Affiliates Advocate for MNT in Essential Health Benefits Packages

As the deadline for states to determine the benchmark set of Essential Health Benefits for health insurance plans sold in their states, the Academy's affiliate Public Policy Panels are actively advocating for the inclusion of MNT services. As just a few recent examples of these efforts, member leaders in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Maryland and Kansas have been meeting with decision makers and providing oral and written testimony on the cost-effectiveness of MNT services provided by registered dietitians.

Journal Editor-in-Chief to Receive Award at FNCE

Academy member Linda Van Horn, PhD, RD, will receive a special Award for Excellence in Journal Publishing at the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo. Van Horn is stepping down in April 2013; she has been editor-in-chief since 2003. She will be honored at the Member Showcase on Monday, November 8.
