New USDA Food Education Messaging

The Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has created a new web page designed to promote more consumption of whole grains, milk, fruits and vegetables. The page provides helpful messaging tools in coordination with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, targeted for populations served by WIC, SNAP and other federal nutrition assistance programs.

Memorial Day Office Closings

The Academy's Chicago and Washington, D.C., offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Normal operations in both offices will resume on Tuesday, May 29. Members who have questions on May 28 can email and will receive a response immediately upon the Headquarters Team's return to the office. The Academy's website is available 24 hours a day to meet members' needs.

Member Receives IFMA's Highest Honor

Academy member Mary Molt, PhD, RD, assistant director of housing and dining services at Kansas State University, was presented May 7 with the International Foodservice Management Association's Gold Plate, the highest honor in the foodservice operations industry. Previous Gold Plate recipients have included CEOs, executives and chefs.
