Members' Expertise in Health Care Information Technology

Academy members Margaret Dittloff, MS, RD; Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LDN; Peggy Turner, MS, RD, LD; and Lindsey Hoggle, MS, RD, the Academy's senior manager of nutrition informatics, attended the annual Healthcare Information Management & Systems Society conference in Las Vegas, Nev. Ms. Collins and Ms. Hoggle presented "Does This EHR Make Me Look Fat?: Using Technology to Track Nutritional Health." The presentation generated rich discussion about the critical need for consistent nutrition terms and content for providers, practitioners and consumers.

Giant Eagle Stores Train RDs on Energy Balance 4 Kids

Giant Eagle grocery stores recently trained all 20 of its store registered dietitians on the Foundation's Energy Balance 4 Kids program and will soon be implementing EB4K in neighborhood schools. RDs and interns will begin using the EB4K Energy Balance curriculum with elementary school students and tying education delivered in the classroom to the grocery store setting, having a meaningful impact on parents as well as students.

Energy Balance 4 Kids with Play Kicks Off March with Power Challenge

Teachers and students in the EB4K program are encouraged to accumulate 150 minutes of physical education and Power Up time (in-class physical activity breaks) per week during the school day. Through this four-week challenge, third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teachers earn recognition for efforts to increase physical activity time for students and practice ways to effectively integrate the time into daily lesson plans.
