Marilyn Tavenner was named last week by the White House to succeed Donald M. Berwick as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Ms. Tavenner previously served as the principal deputy administrator for CMS, and will serve on an acting basis as administrator during the confirmation process.

Super Committee Fails to Meet Objective by Deadline

The Super Committee, the bipartisan Congressional committee charged with reaching a budget deal to reduce the deficit, was unable to come to any agreement by its November 22 deadline, putting into action automatic across-the-board spending reductions known as sequestration. Details are still unfolding, but ADA will continue to work with key partners and members of Congress to understand how these actions will affect members and the programs and services they deliver.

Each year, the ADA Foundation makes available nearly $75,000 in continuing education, recognition and program development awards. This year, the Foundation is pleased to offer new awards including the American Overseas Dietetic Association International Project Award, the Rebecca Snowball Reeves Continuing Education Award, the CDR Grassroots Marketing Grant and the CDR Leadership Grant. The deadline to apply for the majority of Foundation Awards is December 1.
