On the Pulse of Public Policy

MNT Coverage for Prediabetes Bill Introduced in Congress

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (Colo.) has introduced an important piece of legislation and is circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter urging support of medical nutrition therapy coverage for people with prediabetes. With the increasing numbers of people affected by prediabetes, this bill would provide a cost effective nutrition intervention. The bill has bipartisan support and ADA will be launching a campaign at the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo to encourage members to contact their Congressmen and ask for support of this bill.

State Licensure Boards Impact Profession

RD members of state licensing boards are working on issues that impact the profession. Did you know your affiliate board needs to remain aware of the initiatives of the state licensing board? Did you know your licensure could be on a list for elimination by your governor and awareness of the status of your RD licensure board member appointments is important? It can be a conflict of interest for a member of a state licensing board to also serve on the affiliate board. ADA encourages affiliates to appoint a liaison to their state licensing boards and to attend licensing board meetings to monitor decisions that impact members. These issues and others were discussed at ADA's recent workshop, "Engagement with Licensure." For more information, contact Juliana Smith, director of state government relations.

Members Urged to Join Grassroots Campaign for Obesity Treatment Coverage
