ADA Member Featured Presenter at Hill Briefing

Ann Albright, PhD, RD, director of the Division of Diabetes Translation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, spoke recently to a standing room-only group on Capitol Hill on the importance of diabetes prevention. She discussed the need to diffuse study interventions to the population to control costs. Her presentation was part of a panel discussion titled "Combating Diabetes and Curbing Federal Health Care Spending."

New USDA Farm to School Report

The USDA Farm to School Team report is now available. The report gives a greater understanding of the farm to school and identifies what is needed for the school districts and farmers to begin and sustain their farm to school activities and what support the USDA could provide for these efforts. Findings of ADA member Kelly Horton, MS, RD, CD, a member of the team, are included.

August Congressional District Work Period

Although shorter than past work periods, Representatives and Senators will be back home in August. ADA's Public Policy Coordinators, leaders in state dietetic associations, are busy planning meetings and visits. Members are strongly urged to contact them to offer help. Never has it been so critical for these elected policy makers to understand the value of registered dietitians and dietetic technicians, registered to their communities.
