Agriculture Appropriations Bill Passes the House

The House of Representatives narrowly passed the Agriculture Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2012 by a 217-203 vote. A number of amendments that would have cut funding for nutrition related programs were turned down with bipartisan support.

Senate Appropriations Up Next

In the past week, ADA members have met with Senators Mark Warner (D.-Va.) and Jerry Moran (R.-Kan.) to discuss Fiscal Year 2012 funding. The meetings were very positive, supporting the need for nutrition programs for health while trying to view all programs fairly as deficit efforts continue. ADA staff will continue to meet with Senate members to advocate for the fair and necessary funding of these essential programs.

Obama Administration Releases National Prevention Strategy

The National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council announced the release of the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy, a comprehensive plan that will help increase the number of Americans who are healthy at every stage of life.

ADA is among the first group of organizations to join the USDA/CNPP Nutrition Communicators Network as a National Strategic Partner. This network provides an opportunity for community and national organizations to join together to promote the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. National Strategic Partners are companies and organizations that are national in scope with a commitment to disseminating Dietary Guidelines messages and to developing and implementing an annual joint strategic nutrition promotion plan.
