CMS Workgroup Addresses Key Issues

ADA's new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Workgroup met in Chicago on May 13 to begin its work developing and executing strategies that have a positive impact on CMS. The workgroup was established by ADA's Legislative and Public Policy Committee. CMS initiatives affect ADA's entire membership, directly or indirectly, so ADA is fully committed to ensuring the Association's important voice is heard.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley (D.-Iowa) recently introduced H.R. 531, the "Access to Frontline Health Care Act of 2011," in the House of Representatives. This important bill would reduce health disparities by providing loan forgiveness to health practitioners including registered dietitians.

WIC Cash Voucher: Does Regional Price Variation Affect Buying Power?

Since October 2009, WIC packages have included a fixed-value voucher for purchasing fruits and vegetables. In a new report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says the 20 most commonly purchased fruits and vegetables cost 30 percent to 70 percent more in highest-priced areas than in the lowest, indicating that WIC participants in more expensive areas might be able to purchase fewer fruits and vegetables.
