Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has issued a call for proposals for grants sponsored by the foundation's Healthy Eating Research program. The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies with potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity. Findings are expected to advance RWJF's efforts to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015.

Sixth Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference

The California Department of Public Health, California Department of Education, University of California - Berkeley, Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Center for Weight and Health, the California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente announce the 2011 Childhood Obesity Conference, scheduled for June 28 to July 1, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.

The safety of the food supply is a major public health issue on which registered dietitians can lead educational efforts about what is happening during a food recall. This knowledge is especially important for those who provide food at institutions and restaurants. This February 24 teleseminar will examine how foodborne illness outbreaks are tracked down and how recalls are implemented. Examples of standard operating procedures for food safety practices, especially with food recalls, will be provided.
