Just another acronym--"HIE"?

"HIEs"--Health Information Exchange….your first thought may be of insurance.  It is confusing, as the terms are very similar.  Health Information Exchange is a component of the HITECH Act—it means just that—your health information is exchanged with who needs to access it for treatment, payment or operations.—including you!  Many patients likely already think that their data is being shared between the physicians they see, when in fact having the right data at the right time for the right patient is not always the case.  The National eHealth Collaborative is a public-private partnership that enables secure exchange—to improve health care.  A recent publication gives an broad look at the work underway and examples of organizations which have successfully launched Health Information Exchange.  Download the white paper and take a look at the future.
