Nutrition Standards: Another Step Forward
By Margaret Dittloff, MS, RD
Chair, Nutrition Informatics Sub-Committee on
Interoperability and Standards
As promised,
I wanted to post additional information about the work in progress on the Diet
and Nutrition Orders Domain Analysis Model currently in progress on the Health
Level Seven International (HL7) May 2012 ballot. This is the second “informative”
ballot and reflects comments received from the first ballot from September
2011, along with new storyboards or real-life scenarios to support business process
flow for dietitian consultations and nutrition assessment activities, based on
the nutrition care process as they pertain to nutrition order modifications.
This version of the model also includes more details for food allergies, food intolerances,
and food preference order requests, which are an integral part of patient care.
Monday April
30, is the last day to sign up for this ballot. Members of HL7 or those who
work in HL7-member health care organizations are encouraged to sign up by the
April 30 deadline for the Diet and Nutrition Orders Domain Analysis Model
ballot pool on the HL7 Web site and submit any comments by May 7, 2012.

them together as the Academy’s official vote.
