Exploring the TIGER Initiative

(Clinical Nutrition, Professional Education, HITECH Areas for Involvement) Permanent link   All Posts

The time for the electronic health record is now! Are you ready?

An initiative known as TIGER, Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform, has been diligently working to create action plans and technology education to equip healthcare professionals and citizens with the information necessary for preparation and acceptance of the electronic health record.

The TIGER Initiative is separated into three different phases. Phase I, which occurred in 2006, engaged stakeholders to create a common vision for the future at an invitation only summit. Phase II, 2007-2009, facilitated collaboration among participants to define how the vision would be achieved. Currently, Phase III is a call to action to our leaders, organizations, and healthcare professionals to implement and integrate the TIGER recommendations. The overall goal of TIGER is to enable healthcare professionals to use informatics to provide safer, more efficient, higher-quality care for all patients.

Can ADA join forces with TIGER? Do you know if anyone at ADA is looking into the possibility?

Hi Peggy,
YES--ADA will have people working with TIGER and I would encourage you to go to the website when they have the new organization in place and jump in! The TIGER group has been open, transparent and welcomes dietitians!

As ADA's representative (and only non RN) to the initial TIGER Summit, I can verify that the group was warm and welcoming! This meeting spurred me to seek advanced, graduate level training in clinical informatics and many of the initial TIGER attendees have become my long term friends and mentors.

The TIGER link (above) has a lot of valuable information. I am amazed at how much has been accomplished in such a short amount of time.
