After FNCE

As Marty last blogged, this year’s landmark “in-person” session for the AMIA/ADA “10x10” Course was a wonderful addition to the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Boston, Massachusetts this year.  Perhaps one of the most exciting points for me was the fact that ADA now has an understanding of more members who are working in the field of informatics and who might want to be involved with collaboration in nutrition informatics in the future.  Many of the papers written by the students were not only an “idea” or a test of some vision or a future project—many of those taking the course actually completed the loop.  They contacted their supervisor, the facility Information Systems/Technology department, or other peers, refined their plan and completed the tasks necessary to present outcomes.  Wow—impressive, to say the least.  We will keep you posted on a summary of issues and suggestions from this class and in response to many questions—what the plans are for the next 10x10 with a nutrition focus.  Thanks to all of those who made this course and the outcomes such a remarkable experience.

Following on the heels of FNCE this year was the American Medical Informatics Association Symposium in Washington, DC.  Participants of the 10x10 actually have access to the Archives of the Symposium (with use of their login/password)—whether they attended or not (an added bonus of the course!)  So after a very full informatics calendar for November, I will look forward to blogging more, having some guest bloggers join Marty and myself and…celebrating the arrival of grandchild #2!  There is no doubt this was a month of landmark events!
