Denied Claims

A claim can be denied for various reasons such as incorrect or insufficient information. When investigating or resubmitting a denied claim, you can do the following:

  • Submit a letter stating clearly why the medical nutrition therapy was medically necessary. Attach documents that support your claim, such as a doctor's referral.
  • If the insurance company has not yet adopted use of the approved MNT CPT codes, inquire if they have specific codes they would like you to use for medical nutrition therapy services.
  • Advise clients to express to their employer and insurers that MNT is a cost-effective way to prevent or treat an illness or injury.
