Members will hear testimony from Chairman of the President's Council on Fitness and former NFL star, Lynn Swann, and nutrition expert, Dr. Jane White

On Tuesday, March 11, the Senate Special Committee on Aging will hear testimony from fitness and nutrition experts on healthy aging. As the prescription drug coverage debate rages on, the committee is committed to exploring alternatives to help the exploding population of older Americans maintain healthy, independent, and productive lives.

More than 35 million Americans will turn 65 in the next 30 years. As the population of older Americans increases, millions more will be living with a chronic disease. Right now, eight of 10 older Americans live with a chronic disease and most often turn to expensive prescription drugs to manage their disease. The Nutrition Screening Initiative (NSI) is committed to informing physicians and seniors about medical nutrition therapy, a way to help manage chronic conditions and reduce reliance on prescription drugs.
