CHICAGO - The nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals unveiled its completely revised and updated Web site on May 31,2003.
The American Dietetic Association’s Web site, http://www.eatright.org/, has undergone a complete upgrade and redesign. The new features are aimed at helping consumers quickly and easily navigate thousands of pages of reliable information on food, nutrition and health.
“Our Web site provides information for people of various backgrounds,” said registered dietitian and ADA President Julie O’Sullivan Maillet. “By increasing ADA’s visibility and relevance in the consumer market, while elevating the position of the dietetics professional, we ensure ADA’s presence as the most valued source of food and nutrition services for the public.
In addition, ADA’s nearly 70,000 member dietetics professionals will benefit from the site’s redesign, especially in the areas of education and professional development.
Features of ADA’s redesigned Web site include:
- The ability to search ADA’s entire membership for a dietetics professional to arrange a nutrition counseling session;
- Thousands of pages of nutrition information including Daily Tips, press releases, ADA position statements, information on special programs and activities, limited access to research studies and other articles in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association and more;
- Information on becoming a dietetics professional;
- Background and regular updates on legislative and public policy issues related to food and nutrition, such as food safety, nutrition education, school meals and medical nutrition therapy for people with chronic conditions like diabetes and kidney disease;
- News from and about the American Dietetic Association.
“As the largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, ADA has a responsibility to bring accurate, authoritative information about food and nutrition to everyone - the public and health professionals alike,” said ADA’s Chief Executive Officer Ronald Moen.
ADA has long been a popular Internet destination for people seeking the straight story on food and nutrition. Its site ranks in the top 50,000 on the entire Internet, with an average of 4.75 million hits every month. In one recent month, more than 17,000 visitors searched for a dietetics professional at http://www.eatright.org/.
“The Internet is critical to meeting our responsibility. By continually updating and improving our Web site, we make sure all visitors to ADA online come away with the most accurate and credible science-based information,” Moen said.
With nearly 70,000 members, the American Dietetic Association is the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The Chicago-based ADA serves the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being.
