American Dietetic Association Foundation invests in future of dietetics through scholarships

CHICAGO - The American Dietetic Association Foundation announced Monday  (July 14) it has awarded $175,200 to 144 students at all levels of dietetics study.

Each year, the ADA Foundation, the largest provider of scholarships in the dietetics field, invests in the future of the dietetics profession through undergraduate, graduate and continuing education scholarships.
Scholarships are funded by individual donors, affiliated state and regional dietetic associations and American Dietetic Association corporate partners, including:

  • Colgate Palmolive, a global consumer products company focused on oral and personal care products
  • ConAgra Foods, one of North America’s largest packaged food companies, with a strong presence in consumer grocery as well as restaurant and foodservice establishments
  • Ecolab, a global developer of cleaning, sanitizing, maintenance and repair products and services for hospitality, institutional and industrial markets
  • Mead Johnson Nutritionals, a division of Bristol-Myers Squibb, manufacturer of pediatric, adult and medical products that meet special nutritional requirements
  • Sodexho Services, providers of food and dining management services
  • ADA affiliate associations:
    • New York Dietetic Association
    • Northwest Ohio Dietetic Association

The ADAF Scholarship Committee met May 22-23 in Evansville, Ind., to award the scholarships.

Himburg, PhD, RD, FADA, Florida International University; Alicia M. Moag-Stahlberg, MS, RD, Ceres Connection Ltd., Skokie, Ill.; Beatrice W. Silverman, MS, RD, LD, Eastern Michigan University; Mary Ellen Owens Summo, DTR, Central Arizona College; Mary K. Young, MS, RD, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Centennial, Colo.

The American Dietetic Association Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 charity devoted exclusively to nutrition and dietetics. It funds scholarships and awards, public awareness and research projects and ADA strategic initiatives.
