Senior Airline Attorney J. Craig Busey Joins American Dietetic Association as General Counsel

CHICAGO -- J. Craig Busey will join the American Dietetic Association, the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, on July 1 as ADA’s general counsel.

Busey, former senior counsel for litigation at United Airlines, will be responsible for protection of ADA’s and its related organizations’ interests and operations under the law.

“ADA, both as an organization and through individual members, is the public’s link to nutrition and health. Craig’s strong business and legal background, along with his extensive corporate law experience, will be invaluable in moving ADA forward,” said ADA Chief Executive Officer Ronald Moen. “We are very fortunate to have Craig and his counsel will be a tremendous asset for our Association and its members.”

Busey’s responsibilities also will include recommending policies concerning external industry relations, conflict of interest, ethics and appeals and other Association issues with legal ramifications; acting as ADA’s primary resource for legal advice to association executives and member leaders; and handlings issues such as regulatory, antitrust, health-care policy, licensure, restraint of trade and intellectual property issues.

Busey spent 17 years at United Airlines, working in litigation and strategy, as trial counsel and as legal counsel on issues including antitrust, advertising and promotions, safety, security and aviation law.

Previously, Busey was a partner in the litigation practice group at the Chicago law firm McDermott, Will & Emery, where he worked from 1973 to 1986 in the areas of general litigation, antitrust and trade, regulation, association law and intellectual property.

Busey received his undergraduate and law degrees from Northwestern University. He is a member of the bar in the State Illinois, Northern District of Illinois and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Busey lives in Wilmette, Ill.
