American Dietetic Association Names 2003-04 Board of Directors

CHICAGO -- Seventeen national leaders in the fields of food, nutrition and public health will guide the American Dietetic Association as ADA's 2003-04 Board of Directors.

The board, which takes office June 1 and will serve until May 31, 2004, is responsible for strategic planning, policy development and fiscal management for the Chicago-based ADA.

ADA's 2003-04 directors are:

Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA; Owensboro, Ky.; ADA President. Edge is president and chief executive officer of MSE & Associates, a nutrition and foodservice management company providing consulting services in the food and health care industries.

Ethan A. Bergman, PhD, RD, CD, FADA; Ellensburg, Wash.; Director. Bergman is professor of food science and nutrition and interim associate dean of the Central Washington University College of Education and Professional Studies.

Al Cassady, Evansville, Ind.; ADA Foundation Chair. Cassady is associate director of professional services and medical exhibits at Mead Johnson Nutritionals.

Sonja L. Connor, MS, RD, LD; Portland, Ore.; Director. Connor is research associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University and director of the university's nutrition elective for medical students and the nutrition course for physician assistant students.

John B. Coombs, MD; Seattle, Wash.; Director. Coombs is associate vice president for medical affairs (clinical systems and community relations) and associate dean for regional affairs, rural health and graduate medical education at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Robert Earl, MPH, RD, LD; Falls Church, Va.; Speaker, ADA House of Delegates. Earl is senior director of nutrition policy at the National Food Processors Association, the principal scientific and technical trade association representing the food industry.

Chester (Chet) England III, CQE, Miami, Fla.; Director. England is senior director of product safety and chief food safety officer at Burger King Corp.

Rachel K. Johnson, PhD, MPH, RD; Burlington, Vt.; Director. Johnson is professor of nutrition and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont.

Susan H. Laramee, MS, RD, FADA, CNSD; Rockport, Mass.; President-Elect. Laramee is director of food and nutrition services at Northeast Hospital Corp. and general manager for Sodexho Health Care Services at the three hospitals owned by the corporation.

Beth L. Leonberg, MS, RD, CSP, FADA; Washington Crossing, Pa.; Director. Leonberg is vice president of nutrition services at Sodexho Health Care Services, overseeing clinical nutrition programming in acute and long-term care facilities.

Julie O'Sullivan Maillet, PhD, RD, FADA; Newark, N.J.; Immediate Past-President. Maillet is professor and chair of the department of primary care and associate dean for academic affairs and research at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Health Related Professions.

B. Thomas Malone Jr., MS, RD, LD; San Antonio, Texas; Treasurer. Malone is supervisory dietitian and chief of the foodservice section at the South Texas Veterans Healthcare System.

Kathleen Niedert, MBA, RD, LD, FADA; Hudson, Iowa; Director. Niedert is a writer, public speaker, nutrition consultant and director of dining services at the Western Home Communities.

Nancy P. Siler, MS, RD, LD, CFCS; Woodridge, Ill.; Director. Siler is director of consumer affairs at Wilton Industries Inc., a designer and manufacturer of kitchenware, bakeware and cake decorating products.

Martin M. Yadrick, MS, MBA, RD, FADA; Los Angeles, Calif.; Director. Yadrick is marketing manager for Computrition Inc., a provider of integrated software solutions for the health care and hospitality industries.

Melinda Zook-Weaver, MS, RD, LD; Blacksville, W.V.; House of Delegates Speaker-Elect. Zook-Weaver is clinical nutrition manager at Monongalia General Hospital and adjunct clinical instructor at West Virginia University.

Ronald S. Moen; Chicago, Ill.; ADA Chief Executive Officer. Moen manages ADA's headquarters operations in Chicago and Washington, D.C., and provides leadership for ADA's nearly 70,000 members, directing the Association's extensive national and international initiatives in public policy, consumer affairs and research.
