California Researcher and Educator to Serve as President-Elect

CHICAGO, July 15, 1997

Ann Coulston, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A., began her one-year term as president-elect of the nearly 70,000 member American Dietetic Association (ADA) June 1.

Coulston, a registered dietitian and an expert in the practice of clinical nutrition and research, is the senior research dietitian of the General Clinical Research Center and a lecturer in the department of medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, Palo Alto, Calif.

A prolific author and speaker, Coulston has contributed to many publications such as the American Medical Journal, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Diabetes and Diabetes Care as well as several review articles and book chapters in Present Knowledge in Nutrition, The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics and Medical Clinics of North America. She has presented research lectures at meetings in the United States, Italy, Finland, Switzerland and Israel.

In addition to ADA, Coulston is a recognized member of a number of professional, nutrition-related organizations including the American Diabetes Association, American Institute of Nutrition, American Society for Clinical Nutrition and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Locally, she has served as president of the California Dietetic Association (CDA) and on its Board of Directors and Foundation Board. Coulston was awarded ADA's prestigious Medallion Award for leadership and has received the Distinguished Service and Outstanding Member awards from the CDA. She is a fellow of The American Dietetic Association.

She earned her master's of science in nutrition from Cornell University, Ithaca, N. Y., and her bachelor's of science in food and nutrition from College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minn. She completed her dietetic internship at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center, St. Paul, Minn.

The American Dietetic Association serves the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being. Founded in 1917, the Chicago-based ADA is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
