THE AMERICAN DIETETIC ASSOCIATION'S NEW DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS BOOK ARMS CONSUMERS WITH VALUABLE INFORMATION BEFORE SELF-SUPPLEMENTING
CHICAGO, May 4, 2000 -- The American Dietetic Association's recently released book, The Health Professional's Guide to Popular Dietary Supplements, written by Allison Sarubin, MS, RD is fast becoming the best resource guide for health and nutrition professionals as well as consumers.
With so much information on supplements available in magazines, Web sites advertisements, television and radio, this new book separates the fact from the fiction on many of the most popular dietary supplements.
Although written for the health professional, it is very consumer friendly and can be used as a quick reference to learn about the claims, food-sources, dosage information, and ultimately, safety. For instance, a consumer interested in taking Ginkgo biloba to improve his memory will discover in the book that there is little research to support this claim. A consumer will however learn that there is evidence suggesting that ginkgo may slow the progression of dementia in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
"It is my hope that the Health Professional's Guide to Popular Dietary Supplements is one of the tools that is used by physicians, nurses, dietitians, exercise trainers, and other health professionals who work with patients to decipher the facts and educate their patients who ask about these products," said Sarubin.
The Health Professional's Guide to Dietary Supplements by Allison Sarubin, MS, RD, is $33.00 for non-members and $29.00 for ADA members. It can be purchased by contacting the American Dietetic Association, 800/877-1600 ext. 5000 or by clicking here to visit our online catalog.
