Chicago -- June 21, 2000 -- A recent survey conducted by the American Dietetic Association reveals that 85 percent of its Web site visitors are women. To help ensure that these women, and all visitors to www.eatright.org, have easy access to accurate and timely nutrition information, ADA is giving its Web site a fresh new look.

"ADA is the leader of food and nutrition information," said ADA's CEO Connie Rivera. " With the redesign of our Web site, we are paving the way for ADA to become an
e-Association."

ADA’s Web site, first established in 1996, has nearly 71 thousand visitors a month. According to the survey, most visitors are looking for weight-loss information. But the phenomenal site has more than 2,400 pages of Web content on everything from finding a dietitian to food and nutrition information to disease prevention information.

"There are numerous nutrition sites on the Internet. Not all are created equal. ADA's Web site, www.eatright.org, has received the highest rating from an independent organization that evaluated food and nutrition information," said Rivera. "Through this popular site, we are aiming to provide the public with sound science-based nutrition information in three clicks or less."

ADA's Web site appeals to a variety of audiences. Students account for most of the visitors (25 percent) with members (22 percent) and health care consumers (17 percent) ranking in close behind. Other visitors include allied health professionals, nurses, physicians and foodservice professionals.

"Our Web site provides information for people of various backgrounds," said registered dietitian and ADA President Jane White. "By increasing ADA’s visibility and relevance in the consumer market, while elevating the position of the dietetics professional, we increase ADA’s presence as the leading source of food and nutrition services for the public."

The 70,000-member American Dietetic Association is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Based in Chicago, ADA serves the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being.
