American Dietetic Association Foundation Names New Directors for 2004-05

CHICAGO - Three national authorities in food and nutrition have joined the 2004-05 American Dietetic Association Foundation Board of Directors. The entire 13-member board is responsible for strategic planning, policy development and fiscal management for the Chicago-based ADA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Dietetic Association. The ADA Foundation’s new 2004-05 directors are:

Neva H. Cochran, MS, RD, LD, Dallas, Texas. Cochran is an author and nutrition consultant. She writes a column for Woman’s World magazine and is a spokesperson for Coca-Cola’s Healthy and Active Lifestyle program. Cochran is a former member of ADA’s House of Delegates.

Johanna Dwyer, DSc, RD, Boston, Mass. Dwyer is director of the Frances Stern Nutrition Center at New England Medical School and a professor of medicine, nutrition and community health at Tufts University. Her research interests include diet-related diseases in children, quality of life among the elderly, and vegetarian and other alternative lifestyles. She recently served as assistant administrator for human nutrition in the Agricultural Research Center at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Rebecca S. Reeves, DrPH, RD, FADA, Houston, Texas. Reeves is assistant professor of medicine and managing director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine. She conducts clinical trials focusing on prevention of heart disease and behavioral treatment of obesity. Reeves is also the 2004-05 president-elect of the American Dietetic Association.

In addition, Margaret Bogle, PhD, RD, Little Rock, Ark., who was the ADA Foundation Board’s vice-chair in 2003-04, will serve as chair in 2004-05. Bogle is executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Nutrition Intervention Research Initiative, which works with residents of poor rural counties in the Mississippi River delta. Bogle also is a member of the American Dietetic Association Board.
