CHICAGO - Ronald S. Moen, chief executive officer of the American Dietetic Association, the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, has been named to the board of directors of the National Health Council.
The National Health Council consists of more than 115 member organizations including the American Dietetic Association. Through policy and advocacy initiatives, legislative and regulatory activities and other programs, the Council promotes high-quality health care, the importance of medical research and the role of voluntary health agencies.
Since joining the American Dietetic Association in 2001, Moen has managed ADA’s headquarters operations in Chicago and Washington, D.C., directing the Association’s extensive initiatives in public policy, consumer affairs and research.
Moen joined ADA after 11 years as executive director of the American Association of Orthodontists. In 2000, he became just the third non-orthodontist in 100 years to receive the association’s James E. Brophy Distinguished Service Award. Previously Moen helped create and was executive director of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. In 2001, Moen received the Association Forum of Chicago’s highest honor, the Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Officer Achievement. He is active in the American Society of Association Executives, serving as a director and vice president and a member of the ASAE Foundation Board of Directors. Moen graduated from Concordia (Minn.) College and received a master’s degree from Purdue University.
“Drawing on his leadership experience and abilities in health care and nonprofit membership associations, Ron Moen has been an ideal chief executive officer for the American Dietetic Association,” said registered dietitian and ADA president Susan H. Laramee. A partial list of Ron’s accomplishments at ADA includes leading the development of a new Association strategic plan, increased professional education and leadership development opportunities for members, dozens of new health professional and consumer publications, enhanced member communications and a revised and updated ADA Web site.
“Just as he has done at ADA, Ron Moen will bring his proven track record of creativity, innovation and success to his service on the board of the National Health Council, to the benefit of all the council’s member organizations and everyone they serve,” Laramee said.
Founded in 1917, the Chicago-based American Dietetic Association has nearly 70,000 members. ADA serves the public by promoting optimal health and well-being for everyone. Visit ADA at http://www.eatright.org/.
