CHICAGO — Registered dietitian Martin M. Yadrick, director of nutrition informatics at Computrition Inc., of Los Angeles, a provider of integrated software solutions for the health care and hospitality industries, begins his one-year term June 1 as the 2008-2009 president of the American Dietetic Association.

Yadrick is ADA’s 83rd president and the Association’s first male president. He has served as ADA’s president-elect since June 2007.

Yadrick has more than 26 years of experience in clinical nutrition, client and practitioner education and administration. He has worked at Computrition since 1993. Previously, he was a clinical dietitian in a cardiac rehabilitation program and an instructor and administrative officer at the University of Kansas Medical Center department of dietetics and nutrition.

“The American Dietetic Association is embarking upon our new strategic plan and beginning to implement our Association’s new organizational vision, mission, goals and values,” Yadrick said. “I am honored to be working with the skilled and knowledgeable men and women of ADA’s Board of Directors who will set the priorities and directions that will enable ADA to achieve our vision – to optimize the nation’s health through food and nutrition, and our mission — to empower members to be the nation’s food and nutrition leaders.”

Yadrick said one of his priorities as ADA president will be to increase the “cultural competence” of the Association’s members as well as the cultural and ethnic diversity of ADA’s membership, and recruiting members from under-represented groups. “Doing so, we will help the face of ADA start to reflect the face of America,” he said.

Yadrick served on ADA’s House of Delegates Leadership Team in 2002-2004 and chaired the Diversity Committee in 2001-2002. He served in the House as a Professional Issues Delegate from 1999 to 2002. Yadrick was a member of ADA’s Strategic Planning Task Force in 2003-04 and chaired the task force in 2007-2008. He is a former ADA media spokesperson; past-chair of ADA’s Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists dietetic practice group, or SCAN; and a former board member of the California and Missouri Dietetic Associations. He received the California Dietetic Association’s 2006 Distinguished Service Award and SCAN’s 2004 Achievement Award.

A graduate of Colorado State University, Yadrick earned a master’s degree from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the University of Missouri — Kansas City.

The American Dietetic Association is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
