CHICAGO – The American Dietetic Association, the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, announced April 19, 2007 that GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of oral healthcare, over-the-counter medicines and nutritional healthcare products, has become an ADA Partner. The Partner program is ADA’s new corporate relations sponsorship structure, providing Partners a national platform via ADA events and programs with prominent access to key influencers, thought leaders and decision makers in the food and nutrition marketplace.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare will work closely with ADA to support joint professional education programs that will inform and educate registered dietitians on new resources for weight control and how they fit in with an overall plan of healthy eating.

This partnership will also work to promote ADA members and make a greater impact on the public’s health. Through a public service campaign, the partnership will raise awareness of various healthful eating messages and the importance of working with a registered dietitian.

“The American Dietetic Association looks forward to working closely with GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare to meet our organizations’ common goals,” said registered dietitian and ADA President Judith A. Gilbride. “Their science-based commitment to developing products that improve people’s health complements ADA’s dedication to bettering the lives of all people through good nutrition.”

“GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare is pleased to join the American Dietetic Association in this partnership,” said Steve Burton, Vice President, Weight Control, GSK Consumer Healthcare. “Through these public and professional awareness campaigns, we will both continue our goals of improving the nutrition and health of all consumers.”
