What related experience and skills have you obtained to prepare you to be a leader?
I have an abundance of skills to motivate our consumers toward healthier lifestyles. I am a community advocate for fitness and health and have coordinated many workshops that focus on nutrition and exercise as the tools in preventing chronic illness. I am optimistic to know incredible changes require minimal steps. I am aware that one size does not fit all and that creativity is necessary to achieve the mission of the American Dietetic Association.
What do you perceive as an important issue impacting the dietetics profession today?
The Medicare Medical Nutrition Therapy Act of 2005. If passed, this would allow Medicare and Medicaid the authority to expand medical nutrition therapy services to any disease. Currently, benefits are limited to diabetes and renal disease. If passed the consumer would be eligible for nutrition services by nutrition experts.
How would you encourage and promote diversity if elected? To encourage diversity, one must first identify his or her differences, biases, prejudices and understand what events molded them. Once identified, realize other cultures have differences, biases and prejudices and it must be understood by you how they were molded. It is only then you can promote diversity and deliver what is required
