What related experience and skills have you obtained to prepare you to be an ADA leader?
With over 20 years of experience in Dietetics Education, including 12 years with CADE, I am keenly aware of program leadership/ management issues and solutions. In serving as UDA President and Delegate and on CADE I have learned from wonderful leaders who enriched my own leadership skills. I have filled numerous leadership roles in professional, community, and church settings. In each instance, I find satisfaction in working with others to accomplish meaningful goals.
What do you perceive as an important issue impacting the dietetics profession today?
Change is one of the critical issues facing dietetics. Changes in science, technology, and healthcare affect what, how, and where we do our work. Changes in availability of information (and misinformation), health expectations, and perceptions of professionals influence our credibility and value. Preparing dietitians with the confidence to hold firm to a solid knowledge base while being flexible in meeting the changing needs of employers, clients, and the public is crucial.
How would you encourage and promote diversity if elected? Education programs are the gateway to the profession, so that is where diversity in the profession starts. On CADE, I would support and encourage Standards of Education that promote appreciation of all types of diversity. On CADE itself, I would actively encourage the nomination of site reviewers and program representatives from diverse backgrounds to bring unique insights and perspectives to the accreditation process.
