Costs of obesity continue to grow
Obesity continues to grow in America – no pun intended. Not only is the incidence of obesity among individuals increasing, so are costs associated with it.
Obesity can affect a person’s health, quality of life and emotional well-being. It also affects everyone’s pocketbook. According to the journal Health Report, the national cost of treating health problems of people who are obese totals up to $93 billion per year.
Researchers compared medical expenses of overweight or obese adults to those of people who are not. According to the study, obese people’s health-care costs were an average of 37 percent higher than non-obese people.
The study provides more evidence that obesity is an important issue for everyone and we must all be a part of the solution.
