Healthful Eating is Possible at College
August 23, 2004 When college freshmen move into their residence halls they quickly learn that food is an essential part of their existence. Balancing what they eat can be tricky. The opportunity to eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and as much as you want causes many new college students to gain weight. The best way to enjoy food and maintain a healthy weight is to develop a plan. Space meals three to four hours apart. Include a small amount of protein and carbohydrates at each meal. Try cheese and crackers, cereal and milk, or yogurt and fruit. Always eat from a plate. Grabbing from boxes and bowls is tempting when you’re busy studying, but it can easily lead to overeating.
