The Morning Cs: Coffee, Caffeine and Calories

The Morning C's: Coffee, Caffeine and Calories

May 14, 2004

A latte or café mocha is a morning jumpstart for many people, but these gourmet coffee beverages put more into your system than just caffeine.

According to the National Coffee Association, in 2001, 107 million American adults drink coffee every day, of whom 29 million drink gourmet coffee beverages.

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found gourmet coffee drinks add nearly 200 additional calories to your daily calorie intake. The calories come mainly from whole milk and whipped cream.

You can reduce your coffee calories by switching to skim milk or passing on the whipped cream.
