A Thirst For Juice
July 21, 2009
When you’re thirsty, a refreshing, fruit beverage often hits the spot. However, when choosing a “thirst quencher,” go easy on juice or juice drinks, since the calories from sugar can add up.
Keep the following tips in mind when trying to both quench your thirst and enjoy a tasty, fruity beverage:
- Fruit juices aren’t recommended during exercise because of their high sugar content. Drinks with a lot of sugar can take longer to be absorbed and may cause cramps, diarrhea or nausea.
- Even if fruit juice is one ingredient, some drinks aren’t nutritionally comparable to 100 percent juice. Many fruit-flavored drinks are actually water with artificial fruit flavor and added sugars.
- Drink fruit juice as a snack beverage. Mix with sparkling water for a refreshing fizz.
Remember, while many fruit juices are a good sources of vitamins and nutrients, water is always the best thirst quencher.
