July 9, 2009
A new study indicates that men who consume more vitamin C may be less likely to develop gout.
According to the study in the Archives of Internal Medicine, men who consumed 1,500 milligrams or more of vitamin C per day had a 45 percent lower risk of developing gout than men who consumed less than 250 milligrams per day. The study assessed both food and supplement intake over the course of the 20-year study and found that as vitamin C intake increased, risk of gout decreased.
Vitamin C is found in many fruits and vegetables, including:
- oranges
- grapefruits
- tangerines
- broccoli
- tomato juice
- green peppers.
Meeting the recommended daily intake for fruits and vegetables is a great and easy way to get your vitamin C.
