The American Dietetic Association's Nationwide Nutrition Network is a national referral service that links consumers, physicians, food manufacturers, distributors or restaurant owners or managers with dietetics professionals.  All participants in the American Dietetic Association's (referral service) are professionals -- professionals who provide reliable, objective nutrition information, separate facts from fads and translate the latest scientific findings into easy-to-understand nutrition information.

Registered dietetics professionals: proven expertise and excellence

When you choose a registered dietetics professional to help with your nutrition or food preparation/service needs, you're connecting with an individual with demonstrated professional expertise and excellence.  Dietetics professionals undergo rigorous academic training and extensive practice experience, and maintain their state-of-the-art food and nutrition knowledge by completing ongoing professional education programs.

Registered Dietitians (RDs) have completed academic and experience requirements established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), ADAs credentialing agency, including a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, and an accredited preprofessional experience program.  Some RDs hold additional certifications in specialized areas of practice.

Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTRs) have earned at least a two year degree from an accredited college/university and have completed a dietetic technical program approved by ADA's Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education, including 450 hours of supervised practice experience in community programs, healthcare and foodservice facilities.

Both RDs and DTRs demonstrate thorough knowledge of their fields by passing a national exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.  And both are required to stay on the cutting edge of their fields by regularly completing continuing professional education to maintain registration.
