Physical Activity during Holiday Travel

Physical Activity during Holiday Travel

December 22, 2006

Millions of Americans will hit the road this holiday weekend for celebrations with family and friends, and many will probably leave their fitness routine at home. If you plan ahead, you can easily keep physically active during your holiday travels.

  • Pack comfortable workout clothes and shoes.
  • Choose a hotel with an exercise facility.
  • If you belong to a health club, see if it has a location near your holiday destination.
  • At the airport or train station, walk the concourse while you wait. Once on board, walk in the aisle whenever possible and do stretching exercises.
  • Buy a local guidebook and map out sightseeing walks.
  • If you’re driving, take breaks and walk around the rest areas.

Holidays can be a stressful time. Exercise can help you dispel stress, manage extra holiday calories and enjoy your holiday season to the fullest.
