Member Value Committee (MVC) Report Spring 2006
ADA’s Member Value Committee met at FNCE on October 23, 2005 and by conference call three times subsequently.
MVC’s FY06 Program of Work is:
- Utilize the results of the 2004 Needs Assessment Survey to investigate the potential revision or enhancement of ADA membership categories and benefits.
- Determine the role of the Member Value Committee in implementing and evaluating outcomes of the HOD motion on “The Value of ADA Membership.”
- Review the Leader’s Challenge results; making programmatic changes if appropriate.
- Investigate the possibility of establishing a Community of Interest for select ADA membership groups (e.g., Retired).
- Review and recommend content and/or changes to the New Member Welcome Booklet.
To achieve portions of the POW, MVC has formed two sub-committees:
- To review current career resources available to ADA members (will include a member of the Professional Development Committee). This sub-committee will convene in May once updates to the ADACareerLink Web site have been added by ADA’s partner, HEALTHECAREERS.
- To investigate an inactive membership category. This sub-committee met via conference call on February 6 to discuss the possible establishment of such a category. Before making a recommendation to the entire MVC, they requested input from the New Member Advisory (NMAC) since it was felt that the younger, perhaps stay-athome parent, would be one of the primary member groups to use such a category. The sub-committee will review NMAC’s input and report back to the entire MVC. Recommendations will be included in MVCs FY07 membership category review.
The MVC, using feedback from the two previous campaigns, has also restructured the Leader’s Challenge recruitment program. The newly revised recruitment and retention program, the Affiliate and Dietetic Practice Group Membership Challenge, rolled out March 1 to affiliates and will begin September 1, for dietetic practice groups.
Specifically, the Challenge:
- Encourages groups to work together and involve ADA leaders (BOD, HOD, DPG Chairs and Executive Committees, Affiliate Presidents and Boards).
- Awards $1,000 grant to the affiliate and dietetic practice group that achieves the largest increase in members within specific categories.
- Provides printed and online support materials to affiliates and dietetic practice groups to use for recruitment and retention through the establishment of a Membership Challenge Community of Interest.
The MVC believes this revised program will reinforce and help fulfill the HOD motions to promote member value, while gaining additional members for and within ADA.
Additionally, the MVC recommended that ADA establish a member relations program. Such programs would include contacting lapsed members to encourage reinstatement and identify reasons for non-renewal, through one-on-one calls. MVC forwarded this recommendation to the BOD at their February 2006 meeting.
The Member Value Committee is looking forward to working together to assist ADA in meeting its goal to build an aligned, engaged and diverse membership.
