Association Positions Committee (APC) Spring 2006 Report

Since October 2005, the Association Positions Committee (APC) met via conference call two times (in December and January) and met face-to-face in St. Louis during FNCE.

During these meetings/calls, the committee:

  • Promoted seven positions at related sessions at FNCE.
  • Hosted a reception at FNCE to thank authors and reviewers of recently published position papers.
  • Approved a proposal for a new practice paper on Nutrient Density.
  • Approved a proposed position concept on “Obesity, Reproduction and Pregnancy Outcomes.”
  • Revised selected APC policies and procedures.
  • Approved a new policy on “Delays in Position/Practice Paper Development.”
Ongoing activities since October 2005:

  • Five positions were published: Impact of Fluoride on Health (October 2005); Liberalization of the Diet Prescription Improves Quality of Life in the Older Adult in Long-Term Care (December 2005); Local Support of Nutrition Integrity in Schools (January 2006); Agricultural and Food Biotechnology (February 2006); Food Insecurity and Hunger in the US (March 2006).
  • Two new positions are in development (one of these is a joint position with Dietitians of Canada) and nine positions are in the process of being updated.
  • Selected authors/reviewers/content advisors for five positions to be updated in the coming year.
  • Initiated Hot Topics for members and released three since October (DNA and Diet, Glycemic Index and High Fructose Corn Syrup).
A face-to-face meeting is planned for Summer 2006 in Chicago.
