Diversity Committee Report Spring 2006
Since our last report in August, the Diversity Committee met on October 24 and January 17. The committee plans future teleconference meetings in March and May. The committee has three main goals for this year:
- To increase the marketing, communication and awareness of the Diversity Committee and its endeavors to the leadership and other members.
- To increase the diversity of the profession and the membership.
- To support and encourage increasing the cultural competence of our members so they can better serve the diverse population.
Activities thus far this year have included:
- Hosting a FNCE Session entitled Multicultural Do’s and Taboos that had an attendance of over 300 members.
- Manning the Diversity Committee Booth at the DPG & Networking Group Showcase. Visitors at the booth learned about the Committee’s initiatives including the promotion grant, action award, multicultural resource list and mentoring toolkit.
- Hosting a Diversity Committee Award and Networking Luncheon which was attended by more than 25 ADA leaders, networking group representatives and others.
- Responding to the Issues Management Committee regarding the RD exam in Spanish.
- Submitting a proposal for an education session at FNCE 2006 entitled: "Defining the Generations: From Baby Boomers, Gen X’ers, Millennials, and Beyond." The proposal was not accepted.
- Updating the diversity PowerPoint presentation.
- Updating the diversity resource list.
