FNCE Program Planning Advisory Committee (FNCE PPAC) Report Spring 2006

The 2006 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo Program Planning Advisory Committee (FNCE PPAC) met in September 2005 to review FNCE 2006 dietetic practice group (DPG) and general educational session proposals. A total of 153 proposals were submitted for educational session consideration. Of those 153 proposals, 26 were submitted as DPG priority sessions and 127 were general educational sessions. A total of 65 proposals were accepted for inclusion in the final program. All 29 DPGs are represented on the program including some joint session planning. Four additional sessions were planned by the FNCE PPAC in order to ensure previously identified member learning needs were met. At this time, a total of 116 speakers are scheduled to present in the FNCE 2006 general program.

Additional educational sessions are being prepared by various parts of the Association. These include: ADA Foundation Symposium, Research Symposium, Professional Development Portfolio Introduction, CDR Forum, and a joint session by ADA and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Speakers and topics also have been identified for featured sessions at FNCE 2006:

  • The Merging of Health, Science, and Technology – Gregory Stock (Opening Session Keynote Address)
  • Freedom From Want: The Human Right to Adequate Food – George Kent (2006 Presidents’ Lecture)
  • Strengthening Nutrition Services for Children with Special Needs: Meeting the Leadership ChallengeMarion Taylor Baer (The Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Lecture)
  • Open My Eyes, Open My Soul: Discovering the Power of Diversity – Yolanda King (Special Session)

Three post-FNCE workshops have been planned. The topics, locations and dates of these workshops are as follows:

  • Building Your Communication Skills through Media Training (Kauai; September 21, 2006) - Level II, 6.0 CPE
  • Counseling Skills for Advanced Practice (Big Island, Hawaii; September 21, 2006) - Level III, 4.0 CPE
  • Heart Disease and Women: The Role of Weight, Hormones and Health (Maui; September 21, 2006) - Level III, 4.0 CPE

The FNCE PPAC is working with the Research Committee on reviewing the submissions from the 2006 Call for Abstracts.
