Sample Cultural Competence Strategic Plan
Major Goal 1: Promote the delivery of culturally competent dietetics care Objective 1. Integrate cultural competence broadly into mainstream ADA activities and the professional behavior of dietetics professionals. Objective 2. Define, integrate, and promote cultural competence in clinical skills at all levels of dietetics care (examination, diagnosis, prognosis, the development of plan of care, intervention, and supervision of personnel). Objective 3. Promote cultural proficiency by encouraging research, which includes the collection of normative data, relevancy studies, qualitative studies, and dietetics efficacy studies on different cultural groups and underserved populations. Objective 4. Identify and publicize a model of cultural competence curriculum for inclusion in dietetics education. Major Goal 2: Ensure that the dietetics profession reflects the demographics of society Objective 1. Identify and promote strategies to increase minority membership in ADA. Objective 2. Identify and publicize strategies for recruitment/retention of student body and faculty from diverse backgrounds and/or individuals who are culturally competent. Objective 3. Promote the preparation of a doctoral prepared faculty who are from diverse backgrounds and/or who are culturally competent. Objective 4. Increase the proportion of ADA minority members who serve in appointed groups and elected positions in the Association and its components. Major Goal 3: Increase and improve access to dietetic professional services to persons in underserved communities Objective 1. Advocate for dietetics as an integral part of the health care delivery system for the underserved and minority/ethnic populations. Objective 2. Identify health care systems and practice opportunities that include dietetics services for the underserved and minority/ethnic populations. Objective 3. Enhance coverage and reimbursement by public and private payers for dietetics services provided to the underserved and minority/ethnic populations.
