House Leadership Team
The House Leadership Team (HLT) is composed of the Speaker, Speaker-elect, and four HOD Directors. The committee develops and coordinates the programs and activities of the House, acts for the House when it is not in session and such action is essential to the well-being of the Association, maintains the Bylaws of the Association and serves on the Board of Directors. All committee action is to be reported to the House on a timely basis.
Responsibilities of the House Leadership Team
- Develop and implement program goals to coordinate activities of the HOD.
- Participate in the development of the HOD program goals and monitor the progress in meeting House objectives on a quarterly basis.
- Recommend to the HOD, or its committees, activities and issues to be considered, initiated, and/or terminated.
- Receive and consider reports from committees, members of the House, and organizational units as related to HOD activities. Act on these as necessary to facilitate HOD programs.
- Review issues suggested for the agenda of HOD; approve final agendas as required for HOD meeting(s); recommend issues for discussion and/or response.
- Monitor HOD composition and representation; and member dues.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility for HOD activities.
- Provide input to budget development.
- Review the costs, anticipated and actual, of HOD activities and programs, setting priorities for action consistent with resources.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce policies that ensure fiscal accountability.
- Develop and maintain effective communications within the HOD, and with ADA organizational units.
- Recommend materials to be distributed to delegates and distribution schedule.
- Assist the Speaker in preparation of Speaker Messages and reports for the HOD.
- Monitor the Issues Management Process and Mega Issues Process.
- Receive and review, according to accepted policies and procedures, all resolutions and late resolutions; assist with revision, if needed.
- Approve new ADA position statements as developed by the Association Positions Committee (APC). APC presents the Position to delegates and members. Delegates and members provide HOD Leadership Team with their comments regarding the position. The HOD Leadership Team may approve the position, return the position to APC without approval or forward to HOD for final approval.
- Identify leadership for the HOD and the Association.
- Convey to the Speaker and Speaker-elect suggestions for chairs and members on appointed HOD and/or BOD committees, task forces and Tactical Workgroups.
- Respond, as requested from other units of the Association, with suggestions for appointments and nominations.
- Support the Association system for strategic planning by developing operating goals and a budget for House activities and programs.
- Ensure identification, discussion, and compilation of trends and issues of importance to the profession, Association and HOD through the continuum of member/delegate/HOD communication.
- Participate in the development of program goals that supports the strategic initiatives and Association priorities.
- Participate in the development the HOD budget.
- Determine what shall be kept as permanent records of HOD activities and ensure placement of these in House files.
- Serve as a member of the ADA Board of Directors and participate in additional activities as assigned by the President.
